His mental state declined terribly as he grew paranoid that he would lose his control and have to start from where he was (which wasn't good to say the least), and all of his friends and family left due to how he treated them which only added to his instability due to having no support system.

Not that it would have changed much because yeesh.

The second someone would try to reality check him (if they did) during this time, it only would have made him even more unstable.

He most likely believed that stepping on everyone to maintain his power was more important than anything, and meeting someone who disagreed, he would have just discarded them without a second thought, all the while internalising it deep down to be brought back up whenever he finally crashed.

His actual death

I have two main headcanons of how the poisoning may have gone:

1. The first main one is that he was murdered.

He treated his staff so badly during his gradually worsening mental decline that one (or maybe more) got so fed up by his poor treatment of them that his morning coffee was poisoned, and while on air he started spitting up blood and then died (hence why his head is a TV).

This one makes particular sense to me because the red lines show up when he's being a sadistic asshole - as he would have been leading up to his murder.

2. The second: he poisoned himself on purpose as suicide.

His mental state declined so much, so stuck in his delusions of grandeur that when he was either reality checked and it actually took hold of him or his content started performing badly in comparison to someone else's he experienced the inevitable crash after having a high in that way and had a full on breakdown (or both tbh).

Him taking a stance of 'I'd rather die now while eyes are still on me then when they're all gone again and my existence is unknown once again'.

I think it's far likelier the former, though considering everything.

I want to write a fic about his death at some point but like.. I don't think anyone would gaf enough to read it for one, and I also have a bunch of stuff I'm already working on that my brain is buffering about/lh

Margie, though, has some strong opinions about North american school structures/cirriculums haha. the children and technology aren't the problem. The world is changing, it will always change. Standardized grade school is a relatively new structure, and it has hardly changed at all since it was first concieved, especially compared to how much the rest of the world/society has changed since then. School systems have not and cannot adapt fast enough to accomodate the rapidly changing job market, technology, advancements in psychological understanding, etc. And, to Margie, the fact that schools apparently can no longer teach kids in an effective manner is proof to her that the public school system is becoming obsolete and needs to change or be replaced with something more suitable for the current era. Because, after all, "anything you learn after 4th grade is kinda useless in real life application anyways, I haven't retained any of it, lmao."

Margie really very dislikes the public school system and considers it an extremely stressful waste of her childhood ��� she coulda spent all that time...learning and playing music instead of getting yelled at by teachers and parents and made to hate subjects/activities she might have loved if they had just been introduced to her differently.

As for their own kids, they can't have 'em and don't want 'em haha

Ok so as someone who started watching smosh bc of Angela and starkid I gotta know… what are your top three favorite starkid shows?? 👀

I remember I had just watched the Snape Snape Severus Snape muppet vid and got AVPM recommended to me and decided, “heck it, sure” (I was just starting my redescent into the Harry Potter fandom) and clicked. Ended up loving it and watching AVPSY and so forth. When I finished I got curious to see what else they had (I had read some comments suggesting they had other musicals) so I checked out the channel and saw they were planning on releasing a new musical soon, “The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals” (i believe I watched the teaser for it about when it came out). Since that wasn’t out yet I watched “The Trail To Oregon!” And that was pretty much history, loved them ever since. It also means I have a special place in my heart for trail to Oregon (me and Jeff Blim fell in love at first sight)

I feel like Black Friday is a bit underrated, it’s my personal favorite of the Hatchetfield saga, I think it deserves more. (I could be biased for Angela, my angel) Something about that one is just very me. could be the fact that the sibling relationship between Lex and Hannah really resonated with me, or the fact that Hannah is a neurodivergent girl that’s also a main character, how often does that happen? A+ from me. The music is really good (you could say that about any Starkid production) but “freast & famine” “Black Friday” (Lex’s solo made me remember she’s my favorite) and “What If Tomorrow Comes” have me in a chokehold.

I really could go on forever, I really do love the Hatchetfield series, I even stared watching some of Nightmare time! Haven’t gotten too far in (I’ve also been skipping around a bit) but my favorite of those is Yellow Jacket! Seeing Joey play Ethan did something to my brain chemistry, which is pretty usual with my brain and anything to do with Joey Richter (stupidly enough I remember him on Jessie when he guest starred as Petey, I remember having a crush on him then when I didn’t even know him in Starkid. Small world)(this was also 11 yrs ago so I guess I’ve always had good taste)

So yeah I think I gave all my reasonings for why those are my top 3, I obviously love a lot of the other stuff they’ve done, but haven’t finished certain musicals (I’m working my way through ‘Starship’ I’m like halfway and I’m liking it so far) so I still have a lot I’ve just never seen.

Yeah, dynamism is a bitch, so I don't blame you at all for getting nervous about it. Of course, the biggest change you can make is foreshortening and perspective, but that takes finding a source that can teach you in a way you understand, a lot of studying, and then trial and error. Which is worth doing, we (I'm saying this to myself too) really should study that. And it's a nightmare because first, you gotta find a source that explains the material in a way that makes sense to you, then you have to find a way to make the studying more fun and worst of all, you have to actually commit and do it. With foreshortening and dynamic posing in particular, the study can take a long while to complete because it does demand an understanding of anatomy, breaking the body down into simple volumes, applying perspective to each piece then knowing how to shade each volume correctly. So, depending on where you are with all those components, you may have to backtrack further.

So, what little changes can be made to increase dynamism in the interim? A pretty easy one is Rim Lighting, pure white is common, and so is really dropping the color values paired with a vibrant colored rim light (red, cyan, magenta are popular). Pushing the shading a bit more will help accentuate bent limbs, rotated torso's, overlapping body parts without having to go ham on foreshortening. Exaggeration of shapes like how Sonic uses big ass hands and big ass feet. Or the Big Pant Big Jackt meme and its variants from Twitter/X. You can try making frames and having feet, limbs, weapons or the top of the character's head extending past the border (typically the more, the better because if it's too little, it reads as a mistake than a choice). Line weight variation is pretty easy (thicker lines towards the shadows, thinner towards light source). Or extending certain lines past the outline and into the shape to create a more 3D look. While the whole trend of "fixing" other artist's art is controversial, one good thing I've learned from watching a few vids is the idea of using the Liquify tool on a finished piece to exaggerate the line of action on something a bit too static.

oh babe ive GOTCHU okay so obligatory "im just a girl that can't escape the brainrot" disclaimer. im not an expert, i do not do this professionally in any capacity, and im sure more seasoned video makers and editors will look at this list and think it's horseshit - and they'd be right!!! but for what it's worth here are the things that help me:

okay so first off, i edit everything (inc music, bc i do Not have the capacity to make edits to a full 4 min song) on my phone, so you've come to the right place - this nifty little app here is what i use.

is it good? as long as you're happy with it not being overly flash, yeah sure. does it get the job done? well id like to think so, as long as you're willing to get a bit creative/think outside the box on occasion. is it free? fuck yeah, as long as you don't want the spanglier functions.

okay so as for creating the vids themselves (very good omens centric, btw):

(here is where i wrote loads of shite but i remembered that you, dear anon, would have to read this and probably just want a simple list but always happy to discuss in more detail just lmk)

(edit: turns out, anon, that i still couldn't keep it to a simple list!!! and for that im very sorry)

obligatory start with: get good quality rips of the show. i didn't do this in the beginning and a lot of my old stuff is uploaded in 720p as a result, whereas now i can upload... decently in 2180p. the longer upload time is worth it. oh, and there is a small aspect ratio difference between s1 and s2, and it's the bane of my fucking life especially when i miss it and it's So Obvious To Me that ive missed it post-upload. don't make my mistakes 💕

right. advice. first, storyboard your vid. even if the song is not particularly relevant to the show/story but has Blorbo Potential™. look at the song you've got, and break it down lyrically (if applicable). what are the words saying? what is the story being told? is it thematically relevant/meta (e.g., RUTH), or is it just so applicable to Them that it's a bit embarrassing (e.g., meatloaf)? or is it neither, and it's just a Vibe (e.g., sushi restaurant)? there have been times where ive had to write out the lyrics physically and make notes on what scenes/bits to put to certain lyrics, in order to not feel overwhelmed with the whole thing... even if i change it later on/it ends up not working out anyway. but yeah take a sec to actually look at your song and work out if you have enough material to tell the story you want to tell in it - ie. not just the chorus/a bit of a verse. (ive fallen into this trap Many a time and have a Lot of abandoned wips floating around as a result)

related to the above, and i can't imagine it will be a problem lol, but being Very Familiar with the source material helps. pay attention to blocking and angles, especially if you want to do a cool/slick transition, or want to group together similar shots for a bit of visual interest and satisfying brain itching (e.g., 00:31 onwards of best shot). keep a track of filler bits, like clicks/hand claps/funny faces/dancing/dramatic head turns, because not only is it sometimes helpful for when you've got a musical interlude, but it can help maintain the tempo. (e.g., beginning of darkness)

ALSO related to the first point, and just a general tip - you don't have to start from the beginning. start, for example, with That Emotional Part where you can Perfectly see a part of the show cut to it. (e.g., cut to the feeling, where i started with the 1941 bullet catch at 1:18-1:27 for the bridge, and then built on it backwards). it helps with motivation too, when you find The Good Bit that you knows others will hate you for 🥰

in general, i recommend to keep the big set pieces (bullet catch, kiss, wall slam, in the beginning, on the wall, bookshop fire) in your back pocket for the Big Emotional, Heart-Swelling points of the song, and build on them from there. if you can, exercise symmetry in your scene choices across the choruses (e.g. dog days), or bookend the vid with the same scene (e.g., bon jovi intro and 1:45); i find it keeps a Theme going and drives up the emotional payoff, and again helps with storyboarding (dog days example: i framed as flashbacks, bon jovi example: i framed it as a flashforward)

i know others do this, and it is Not me criticising it at All because it can be soooo effective, but my personal style tries to avoid mouth movements as much as possible (unless it matches the lyrics, and then i keep it in because it's funny - e.g., "yeah" at 0:39 for bon jovi). so to that end, if you're looking to do the same thing/same style, be mindful of when expressions change/mouths start to move - it can literally be a matter of 0.1s, but be jarring if left in. this does regrettably mean losing a lot of source material (bc. yk. they talk in it, not just make Faces at each other), but i personally try to keep it to a minimum or try to keep any mouth movements out of focus.

now. i love a short cut. i go mad for a short cut. i go berserk for fast, sharp scene changes, they're like crack to me. prefer them to using huge stretches of clips. but!!! when actually editing (especially with the above app that whilst great, is not very good on refresh rate/buffering), id recommend exporting your video periodically or after doing a particularly choppy/fast bit, and Checking if it works/it's in time with the music. rewatch it 5, 10 times to make sure. you will constantly have to adjust stuff if you're creating the vid out of sync, unfortunately, but it will honestly help so much. it'll just give you a "ah yes i have 10 fast cuts there, and sure it only makes up for around 5 secs of actual screen time, but it's perfectly in sync and very satisfying, good job me" feeling, which is awesome. if you have issues with timing, consider downloading an overlaying metronome track in the bpm you need, and match it to that. (that saved in me in more of my vids than i care to count)

that being said, don't use short cuts if it doesn't suit the song!!!💕 or at least try to use a mix of them to give the vid some pacing. i like a pop or rock song, me, so i naturally tend to go for higher bpm songs (rip) anyway, but i try to get some longer cuts in there (especially around the intro/bridge) to give the viewer some breathing room (e.g., 0.00-0.44 for hero)

biggest advice tho: just have fun with it. create what You want to watch. do you listen to a song and think GOD THAT SCENE WOULD BE SO GOOD HERE??? then DO IT!!!💕 it doesn't have to slick or flash or overly clever in the transitions or effects, if you don't necessarily want it to be. don't get me wrong, they can look bloody spectacular - some of my favourite vids are really polished and impressive!!! but some of my faves are technically really basic, but they Understand the material and they Understand storytelling. equally some very kind people have told me that mine are some of their favourites (still makes me grin, months later!!!) and my transitions/effects are rudimentary at best. people will see your Vision because it is a Great Vision and will love your work regardless of the quality. you will improve with time, you will recycle bits and use them in new ways, you will learn skills and shortcuts that you will do better the next time. please pls plssss just create and have fun with it, god knows we need it in the world rn 💖

Wreck

There's exactly one shot I might go back and change if I could now, but honestly this is probably my favourite of my vids. It accomplishes, imo, what I always want to accomplish with a vid, which is both being visually engaging and fitting the music in a satisfying way, and essentially being a visual essay with a thesis statement. I feel like the essay part works on multiple layers too, where the basic point (Guts' violence is self-destructive) should come across pretty clearly, but there are a lot of little nuances that reasonably only I will ever know lol.

Like for example there's a set of three shots towards the end: a monstrous arm reaching out, a sword-strike, and a monstrous arm falling severed to the ground. Those three shots form a coherent whole, but they're taken from three very different scenes, which, put together, draw a throughline between Guts' rapist, Guts' abusive father figure, and Guts' urge to fight monsters.

Ultimately I made this vid for me, and my intended audience is happy with it.

The Moon Will Sing

I feel like this one was very successful on an emotional level. Every time I watch it there are several moments that give me shivers, and it never wears off. It's a love letter to Casca, and you can feel that imo. Plus I'm very proud of just being able to make a Casca vid that's about her life and her accomplishments and disappointments, and not romance lol.

Long Black Coat

This is the earliest completed vid I still have and yk what it holds up. The song edit is smooth enough that I completely forgot I edited the song until someone mentioned how cut up it was lmao, since it's one I never listen to outside of rewatching this vid; the music is illustrated by the visuals very well imo, it has a good sense of rhythm; and while it's still pretty linear it's not completely linear lol, which was an accomplishment for me when I was like 18.

Tropic Morning News

The fugue state I went into while making this was ridiculous, and then I spent the next few days rewatching it like 50 times. The hypomanic obsession has worn off and it's not quite as perfect as I thought during that week of making it lol, but it still holds up pretty well imo, and it was a memorable experience. It's the only vid I've ever made with a constructed reality element so it's a successful experiment too. I think it comes together overall, and it's a good portrait of Hawkeye/BJ as a ship.

Waltzing Along

I'm saying this vid instead of my most recent pretty much solely because it was my first Mash vid, I feel like they're ultimately pretty equivalent. But yeah like, going in I was extremely skeptical that Mash would work as a source for me, because it lacks a certain cinematographic polish lol. It's not super visually interesting and a lot of significant moments are portrayed almost solely through dialogue. But then I started this and I was like oh okay I can work with this, nice. So I have this vid to thank for all future Mash vids, and for helping expand my resourcefulness as a vidder.

Plus I'm pretty proud of it in general, like the death verse came together so well, I love my choice to show Tommy and Henry before the lyric reaches 'death row,' to add that little retroactive realization of why they're here. And intercutting Hawkeye getting out of the bus with Hawkeye helping the North Korean dig a grave, leading into Hawkeye supporting all his friends... Hawkeye.mp4. It also has a slightly stronger emotional core than my most recent one, probably.

Also I showed it to my dad and it made him tear up lol so I consider that a win.

Passions:

obvs as y'all know recently and just in gen., i guess, writing- i love crafting worlds and stories where anything can happen and just creating scenes above all else, like getting lost in the details of everything. I love getting lost in my own world and making myself happy as most self-indulgent writers do (and showing off my legitimate skill in a proper form of writing after doing shitpost-y things for so long is pretty rejuvenating, XD). And upon going back to some of my older, posted works and wips, I still laugh at the dumb shit I thought was the best stuff ever and now find myself giving those ideas a refresher like my last writing update, because it's still a legitimately enjoyable read.

i love sketching for similar reasons, but more so to visualize a fuzzy, almost-there idea, usually about fashion. Like recently I re-drafted some outfits for a fic idea I had, in order to make the world and designs make sense in my head. And I redesigned an existing outfit, running with certain themes and embellishments in design. I'm so happy I can churn out simple sketches like that when i really put my mind to it and feel content with the finished product nowadays. I feel accomplished as a hobby artist now and it's all thanks to heavy online research, a few how-to books, and putting effort into one art class. It's the second hobby of mine that I want to be good at, almost as much as my writing. Speaking of, I sometimes draw what I write or dream about because it's that prominent in my head.

Past times:

I really like playing the simpler games in life- not as much in the vein of it being less difficult or busy, but more so with fewer controls, interesting mechanics, and a captivating style that I can easily fuck around in or beat some levels for a few hours. Bring on the (spider) solitare (only 4 suit sucks ass why do i do this to myself), jewel quest (FUCK YOU CROWS), barbie's fashion show (SINGLE DREAM-), zoo tycoon (fuck guest happiness), and sonic adventure or x-men of course.

MMD vids are v neat, like I know a handful of choreos that are fun as past midnight exercises to get my blood pumping and i get to discover new songs and learn more about other languages at the same time! Also the aph as mmd crack vids are the best whether its them making 'i hate this' or 'yeah im hot shit' faces or being completely into it as they're forced to dance or simply copying a vine. Like, they give me brainrot and serotonin at the same time its so fun. I love seeing all the different outfits for mmd vids in general, too, on top of new covers i never would've known about.

I really love analyzing things in general, actually. It's how I learn most of the things I do and know now, even though it technically causes me to lose large chunks of time because all i'm doing is staring at the damn thing, XD. Sometimes (all the time) I'll look at a gif or vid of a character changing their facial expression as they do/say something and I'll be completely enthralled by it. Something similar happens when I stare at REALLY GOOD artwork. I think it's the technical part of my brain trying to figure out the individual elements which make up whatever that thing is, like what facial muscles are being used to convey that emotion or mix of them, what the character is feeling, how the lighting or shading of the environment or extra details in editing affects said expression, etc. And for art, I'm thinking of the lines, posture, composition, object placement, color palette, negative space, tone, and all that jazz you learn from studying art.

Scrapbooking is a fun pastime for me that's extended from celebratory cards to actual gifts to my personal sketchbooks. It's part of the "creating something out of nothing/seeing what you can create with some basic templates and decorations" kind of mindset. And it makes me happy because I get to be creative and my family members and friends (even my employer) love them as part of their gifts every time and come to expect it from me each holiday, so I'm constantly encouraged to do it in the best way. I've recently kinda gone overboard on using ribbons and charms for the spiral and stickers and washi tape for the actual book itself on my sketchbooks, but I find myself wanting to draw in it more because I did that, lol.

I love rewatching the things I love. I usually have the same commentary about it, but its nonetheless enjoyable. And I never know what new thing I'll discover about it next, even if i've seen it over 50 times and only have it on as background noise and don't actually watch it. okay so i just watched this video and it got me thinking so i may or may not have accidentally written a critique/essay about it and am now sharing it here because this is my blog and you signed up for my obvious signs of mental illness i will not get checked out/hj

I would like to preface this (as i may have gotten slightly carried away) as only being criticism and my own take on the subject at hand. This is entirely subjective and meant to add nuance on the subject because it is one that interests me and i thought voicing my opinion on it could be interesting. I mean absolutely no hate and i'd actually like to thank the original creator for bringing this up and giving me the opportunity to reflect on it, and that most things touched on here are technicalities that as a whole can be ignored but i thought were important to bring up. 

My main issue with the points being made in this video is that they're portrayed as only being true for published fanfiction when in reality, they're things that occur in most literary genres or just points that kind of fall flat due to having quite a few counter arguments (in my opinion at least). 

 One of the first points made was that fanfiction isn't made to be consumed in the same way as "literary fiction" is, which i suppose is true on a base level. However, the problem here is that fanfiction doesn't fit into one literary category, hence why tags such as "thriller" or "fantasy au" exist. This may sound absurd but I've honestly read fanfiction that has had more literary merit than "literary fiction" books i've studied in class. Granted, those fanfictions weren't teen romance fanfics but that highlights perfectly the problem i have with the points being made in this video; it reduces fanfiction to something it isn't. This could be a problem with the sites used to read fanfiction on (i will admit that the only place i've read fanfic with true literary merit was on ao3 and that the only site she mentioned consuming from in this vid is, correct me if i'm wrong, fanfic.net so this could come from the fact that certain sites hold certain reputations) but that doesn't stop the media at hand from being fanfiction, and therefor fitting the criteria to the things said in this video. 

 But this also goes hand in hand with the comment made after where she associate things not being made to be monetised as something that will probably be bad when that can't be further from the truth. One of the best things (or at least in my opinion it is) about fanfiction is that it's made for free. At its core, fanfiction has no ulterior motives to sharing a story some lambda person found interesting enough to put pen to paper and to write about. The fact it's the essence of fanfiction is why i truly find it to be one of the best type of media. Think about it, when you don't have a set date to think about and have no editors pressuring you with the fact no books = no money, which is in this society one of the only thing every human needs to survive, authors have the time to perfect their craft and make it as good as possible. Not to mention that saying that statistically fanfiction is badly written just seems kind of weird because where do those statistics come from? There are millions of fanfictions - possibly billions or even more at this point - which does mean that statistically a part of that will be objectively bad but it also means that the polar opposite is also true. 

 However I reckon one of the worst arguements made in this video is moreso a comparison she made when she said "if like every song every child wrote counted towards the canon of what music is, we would all be like 'I guess music's bad'" which besides the fact this sentence reads like an acid trip, is a completely baseless arguement. Throughout this video, she seems to hold more intellectual types of writing such as "literary fiction" on a pedastal which i guess yeah you can since literarture has been a world of elitism for the past thousands of years, however, using children as an example of what contributes to something being bad and on top of that using music as the prime example is probably one of the worst choices you could have ever made. 

 Historically, the genre of music that has accumulated the most prestige is "classical" music. Now, one thing that is very emblematic of classical music has got to be child prodigies. Some of the pioneers of such an elitist kind of music started increibly young (prime example being non other than Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) and even if he feels like an exception, new child prodigies pop up every year and classical music seems to be the place to be for them. And even if you ignore the music part of that statement it still falls flat. For example: the one literary genre that is considered even more elitist than "literary fiction" it has got to be poetry and if children's work in poetry don't really count than how can you explain phenomenons like Arthur Rimbaud who became one of the best poets of all time at only 17 (which is an average age for fanfic writers). 

 The last thing I will touch on (since this is already really long) is the whole "it protrays abusive relationships as being loving" which i will never deny is problematic and definitely should have an afterword or something of the kind. However, you can in no way reduce that statement to only fanfiction. Depictions of abusive relationships as being healthy has been a problem for, at the very least, centuries and yet she only raises it as being problematic in fanfiction which is wrong on so many levels. Case and point with an iconic piece of "literary fiction": Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. We all know that this book doesn't depict a love story because we've all been told that it is a critique. However, if that were the case then how do you explain people like one of my old History teachers telling his student that it's an amazing love story? This problem doesn't only apply to fanfiction and disassociating it from other genres like "literary fiction" just makes the arguement fall flat. 

 There are a few more things I could have touched on but i think this is already lengthy enough so i'll leave it here. I once again would like to say i don't mean any hate to the original poster and i do apologise if i came off as though i did. This was just my thoughts on the video and nuances to the arguments brought up.

Where did I say Viv was trying to "justify" Val's actions? I said she's downplaying his actions as opposed to having the same exact attitude she keeps with Stella for Val. What personality he has changes absolutely nothing about that because just like Stella, she's ALSO not very bright, and ALSO does what she wants. You can say he's GOOFY and CHILDISH but a dumbass? Yeah the show is very inconsistent with that shit.

Another is that she's a literal victim, both in writing and in-universe. When we first meet her and get further info in the beginning of season 1, we see that she originally, WILLINGLY, went to Loo Loo Land

And in that same episode where we are officially introduced to the character, she refers to the bed as OUR bed, she was WILLINGLY sleeping with him in the same bed as opposed to kicking him out of Saud bed and taking it for herself, and she never mentions, ONCE, that she was embarrassed by the man she hated making her look like a fool, which makes it look as though the cheating itself was legitimately the main issue, not her reputation or her pride. She mentions all the other shit when they rewrote her to be a one-note villain.

Val, from start to finish, has been presented as a rapist/abuser since the pilot and first music vid. Nothing has been rewritten aside from, maybe, his slick manner. Perhaps to make it so Viv's fujoshi ass won't look worse defending a mfer who is smart enough to know what he's doing and instead went with him being an idiot so she can properly simp for her own rapist character.
